On May 12 in Higashinozoe, Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture, one Asiatic black bear was captured in a box trap. The captured bear was a female about 1 meter long and weighing about 60 kg, estimated to be 3–4 years old with no history of giving birth. This was the first capture in the city this year.

Near the site of the former Kuroishi Kindergarten, a pair of footprints believed to be from an Asiatic black bear (Tsukinowaguma) was confirmed. The footprints measure about 15 cm long and 10 cm wide, and from the orientation of the toes and claws it is thought the bear headed north.

The next morning a local reported having found a large black dog with a loose leash and handed it to its owner, raising the possibility that the sighting was a mistaken identification; the city continues to maintain precautions.
