Around 08:45 on December 29, 2025, the carcass of a male Asiatic black bear (about 115 cm) was found beside the JR Tokaido Line tracks in Mansui, Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The body showed severe injuries and is believed to have collided with a train; local hunters and city staff recovered the carcass.

Police have issued warnings; sightings and footprints have continued in the area since the 24th, and the nearby 22nd Century Hill Park has been closed.

At around 08:40 on December 24, a truck driver saw a single bear about 1 meter long crossing a prefectural road in Tamari, Kakegawa, and reported it. Police and hunting association members found footprints and hair believed to be from a bear near Okubo Park; no injuries were reported and nearby parks were temporarily closed.
