A driver had reported seeing a bear running on the sidewalk at about 01:00, and footprints were found during morning patrols; the bear appears to be moving toward a nearby cemetery.

The city, police, and hunting association patrolled the area; the bear reportedly escaped northwest and residents have been warned to be cautious.

On the morning of December 25, 2025, bear-like footprints were found in the yard of a residence south of the Nishikata District Center in Kikugawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. On December 24, a roughly 1-meter-long bear was sighted about 2 km away in Kakegawa City, and the city and police are increasing vigilance because it may be the same individual.
