Around 11:00 on May 10, bear tracks were found in a home vegetable garden in Gakuden 1-chome, Engaru. The prints are believed to be from one adult bear with a width of 11–12 cm; multiple tracks moving west to east were confirmed and police have increased their vigilance.

According to the Hokkaido Police, at around 09:40 on March 25, one bear was sighted in Marudai, Engaru Town. The site is near Hyotan Pond.

Around 13:19 on March 20, 2026, a driver spotted a bear about 1.3 meters long beside the Asahikawa-Monbetsu Expressway near the Shirataki Tunnel (about 3 km before the tunnel) in Engaru Town, Hokkaido. There had been another sighting on the 19th, and police warned that bears are awakening from hibernation and urged caution.
