At around 11:35 on November 12, 2025, a male brown bear was caught in a box trap on the grounds of Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo's Chuo Ward and was culled. The bear measured about 113 cm in length with a front paw width of about 11 cm and is believed to be the same individual that had been seen and left tracks around the zoo since November 9.

On November 11, in and around Maruyama Park (Chuo Ward, Sapporo), surveillance cameras and resident reports recorded sightings and tracks of a brown bear; footage also showed a bear clinging to a zoo facility window frame. The city of Sapporo closed Maruyama Park entirely for about two weeks until safety can be confirmed.

Around 00:30 on November 11, 2025, a bear was captured by an automatic camera near facilities at Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo, and at about 00:45 footage showed it clinging to a window frame. City staff found multiple footprints around 10:30 on the same day about 800 meters from the zoo in Maruyama Nishimachi (width about 11 cm), believed to be a female or a young male.
