On December 27 in western Kikugawa City, a city official photographed a single bear about 150 cm long climbing over a fence at around 08:30. A driver had reported seeing a bear running on the sidewalk at about 01:00, and footprints were found during morning patrols; the bear appears to be moving toward a nearby cemetery.

The city, police, and hunting association patrolled the area; the bear reportedly escaped northwest and residents have been warned to be cautious.
