While working on the wood deck on my property, I heard something moving in the brush and saw the side profile of a bear walking southeast (about 20–30 m away). I quietly stepped down from the deck, but the bear, startled by the noise, turned and ran up toward the northwest and I saw its body.

On Saturday, July 4 at approximately 1:30 p.m., in the Shibakusachi area of Tarao, Ten'ei Village, a witness (female in her 70s) was in the living room on the first floor of her home when she observed a bear (about 1 meter in body length) in her yard.

On Saturday, June 20 at about 10:50 a.m., in Shibakusachi area, Terao, Ten'ei Village, beside a village road, a witness traveling by car observed a bear (about 1 m in body length) on the road shoulder enter the forested area to the northeast. The witness reported the sighting to the Sukagawa Police Station on June 21.

On Thursday, June 18 at about 2:30 p.m., on a village road in the Shibakusa area of Tarao, Tenei Village, a witness driving on the village road observed one bear (approximately 50 cm in body length) crossing from west to east and entering the forest.

On May 31 (Sunday) at around 3:55 PM, in the mountainside forest at Yumoto Futamata, Ten'ei Village, a witness driving a village road from south to north spotted one bear (about 1 m in body length) in the mountain forest on the west side of the road. The bear lingered in that area for about 10 minutes and then walked away.

On Sunday, May 31 at around 9:20 a.m., in a forested area (Shimofutamata) of Yumoto, Tenei Village, a man in his 70s (Mr. A), a resident of Minamiaizu Town, was attacked by one bear and sustained injuries to the right side of his face and other areas. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
