On Saturday, May 23 at about 2:45 p.m., in a forested area of Shinasji, Tsuruo, Saigo Village, a man driving a car witnessed a single bear (approximately 50 cm in length) entering the forest.

On April 22 just after 4 p.m., at the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Shirakawa Nunobikiyama training area straddling Ten'ei Village and Nishigo Village, a Self-Defense Forces man in his 30s was attacked by a bear and received five stitches to his right arm and left wrist. He was discharged from hospital the same day.

On April 22, 2026, at the JSDF Shirakawa Nunobiki-yama training area in Nishigo Village, Fukushima, a male SDF member in his 30s was attacked by a bear while checking the site after firefighters and troops extinguished a grass fire caused by live-fire training. He was bitten on his right arm and left wrist, required five stitches, and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
