At around 07:38 on April 7, a roughly 1-meter Asiatic black bear was sighted near the Tounai Sawada bus stop area in Tounai, Sannohe Town; it crossed the road from north to south. No injuries or property damage were reported.

On April 6, 2026 at about 07:20 a bear about 1 meter long was sighted in Sawada, Tonai, Sanno Town (near Route 104) with no damage reported. On the following day at about 07:40 two more bears were reported—one in a field in Tonai Shimomohira district and one near Route 104—and warnings have been issued for the area.

On April 4, a female Asiatic black bear (tsukinowaguma) about 1.2 m long was captured in a trap about 700 m from the site where a man in his 60s was attacked in Sannohe Town, and was euthanized. On April 6, a bear about 1 m long was sighted near Route 104 in Tounai Sawada, the same town, at around 07:20.
