The bear moved from a residential area to Ōshima Nature Fureai Plaza and the Ouse Riverbank; the city and police set box traps, used fireworks to drive it away, and considered emergency shooting while warning residents and asking nearby elementary and junior high schools to refrain from sending students or to close temporarily. No human injuries have been reported.

While walking, a driver in an oncoming vehicle told me “there’s a bear.” When I looked, I saw one bear (about 1.5 m in body length) about 5 m away. It had climbed over the wall on the east side of Shimazu Shokai Co., Ltd. and was running south along the road on the west side of Oshima Central Park.
