Around 01:00 on December 12, in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, a bear about 1 m long was spotted on a road approximately 200 m southeast of Koryo Municipal High School; it appeared to be eating a deer carcass in a roadside ditch. When a car approached, the bear fled into the forest; the city has warned residents and plans to set traps for capture.
