On the morning of November 11, 2025, at a residence in Shimokitate Samukawa, Akita City, a 4-year-old female Shiba Inu chained in the yard was attacked by a bear about 1.2 meters long and dragged away together with its doghouse. Hunters searched and the dog's collar was found in the afternoon, but the dog and the bear remain missing; on November 13 a bear was also reported sighted in Nara-yama Jōnan-chō, Akita City.
