Around 09:15 on April 14, 2026, one bear-like animal was sighted beside National Route 253 in Sasanozawa, Tokamachi City. The city advised people to avoid approaching woods and tall grass, to carry noise-makers or bear spray, and to properly dispose of unwanted fruit and food waste.
