At around 06:30 on April 7, 2026, a black bear (about 150 cm long) was confirmed at Oshima Nature Fureai Hiroba in Tonda-cho, Kōriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. The city and prefectural police cordoned off the area, attempted capture using fireworks, water jets and box traps, and asked nearby schools to refrain from sending pupils to school.
