On 2025-11-11 just after 05:00, a 75-year-old man walking on a road in Yonezawa City's Riyama was attacked by a bear and suffered scratches to his face and shoulder; he was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At around 15:40 the same day, one bear was also sighted in Yonezawa's Hosencho with no reported injuries to people.
