[Report] A friend contacted me saying there appeared to be a bear on the riverbank behind my house. I looked from a second-floor window and saw a bear walking along the bank from downstream toward the iron bridge. When I shouted loudly, it hurriedly went down the embankment toward the river, and its whereabouts after that are unknown. There happened to be an angler under the iron bridge about 100 meters away; the police arrived, issued a warning, and the angler left. It was a large bear for an adult. It was within 10 meters of a house.

I was standing in the river fishing and, as I was about to get out, I stopped to look at my phone for a moment when something moving caught the corner of my eye — a bear! It was about 1 meter in size. Before I noticed it, the bear was in the river about 20 meters away. When our eyes met, the bear seemed startled and raced out of the river, fleeing into the bushes. After that, the bear appeared to be panicked and was running back and forth on Nagano Bridge (when I told a local I met at the Nakasen roadside station about the bear, they said they had just seen a panicked bear on the bridge).

It was wandering near a prefectural road. Body length approximately 1 m, direction of departure unknown, distance to buildings 10 m.

Yokote construction firm Hasshin Kensetsu used a drone equipped with an infrared camera to survey bear habitat and captured footage this spring of three bears believed to be a parent and two cubs. The drone detects heat signatures and is used for locating bears in forests and investigating sites of human-bear incidents.

One Asiatic black bear (Tsukinowaguma) was sighted near YUZAWA Clean Center Co., Ltd., and the police were notified. The bear ran off to the east. Police are patrolling the area. The sighting location was about 300 m from residences; the bear’s body length was 1.0 m.

I spotted a small bear about 50 cm long in the bushes, but it soon disappeared from the area. The direction it went is unknown.

Daisen Yotsuya, Akita

A single Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus) was sighted within a residential property in the village and reported to the police. The bear ran east from the area. Police patrolled the vicinity but did not locate it and there were no nearby damages. The sighting occurred a few meters from a house; the bear’s body length was about 1.0 m.

Yuzawa 松岡, Akita

A witness looked east from their home toward the cemetery and saw a bear eating something. The bear then went off into the woods to the east. Body length approximately 60 cm. About 20 m from a residence.
