Akita’s latest close call came on April 30 at 19:47 in Yokote 2 chome, where a black bear was posted with no further description, and the warning was issued because the area is considered high risk. Earlier that same day, a bear about 0.5 meters long tried to climb from a rice field up the bypass slope in Senboku Kakunodatemachi Kumoshikari, only about 60 meters from buildings, while another bear about 1.2 meters long was seen in Senboku Kakunodatemachi Yamayakawasaki just 10 meters from a house.

The busiest ground is around Akita, Senboku, Yurihonjō, Mitane, and Katagami, where bears have been showing up on roadsides, near homes, and along the edges of fields. Activity was heaviest in October 2025 with 6,243 reports and stayed very high in November 2025 with 3,667, before easing through winter and rising again in April 2026 with 468. Across the area, 21,306 black bear sightings have been logged overall.
