Around noon on the 17th, a Russian man in his 30s was attacked by a bear near the end of the Konakazawa forest road in Okutama (border area) and sustained injuries to his arm and face; he was airlifted by Tokyo Fire Department helicopter to a hospital. He was conscious and is believed to have serious injuries; he was not carrying bear-deterrent devices such as a bell, and the town has set capture cages and urged people to avoid nearby trails.
