Setana opened the latest stretch of activity with two fresh signs of a brown bear on March 31, 2026 in Setanaku Higashiosato, where footprints were found. That follows a November 23, 2025 sighting in Minamikawa, Setana, when a driver on a national highway reported one bear to the police station.
Across Setana, the busiest ground has been around Taiseiku Nagaiso, Taiseiku Miyano, and Setanaku Sanbonsugi, with sightings, droppings, and footprints all turning up there. Activity peaked in September 2025 with 28 incidents and stayed heavy through October 2025 with 15 and November 2025 with 12, while Setana has recorded 255 brown bear sightings overall.
