Inari Shrine has been seeing close bear activity, and the most recent sharp reminder came on April 30, 2026 in Hanno, Oaza Yorochira, when police reported a bear like animal about 60 to 70 centimeters long near Misugidai 1 chome, an area that includes schools and restaurants. Just before that, on April 25, 2026, another black bear was seen in Ome, Katsunuma near the road between Ome Railway Park and Ome Station, where it was spotted behind a tree close to the cliff edge.
The heaviest activity has been centered in Hanno, Ome, and Akiruno, with repeated reports along the Iruma River, near Misugidai Elementary School, and around residential edges and riverbanks. The pace of reports has been strongest in October 2025 with 63 incidents and November 2025 with 39, then easing through winter before rising again in April 2026 with 4 reports; this area has recorded 399 black bear sightings in all.
