On the Tohoku Expressway (southbound), a bear about 1 m long was seen; the nearest house was more than 200 m away. A driver on the southbound highway observed a single bear about 50 m away, wandering in the shrubs on the west slope, about 250 m north of the Hanawa Service Area.
