On November 29, 2025, multiple sightings were reported of a bear about 150 cm long near Moriai in Fukushima City. At around 16:45 a down Abukuma Express train struck the bear near the Yashikishita crossing; the bear died at the scene, no passengers or crew were injured, and train services were disrupted while patrols were increased.
