Hirakata Park has been watching the same kind of close call play out in the surrounding hills: on April 19, 2026 at Minoh Gein 3 chome, a black bear stood halfway up a slope beside flowing water and answered with a low growl while watching a person below. Another tense encounter came on April 10, 2026 at Heguri Midorigaoka 6 chome, where a bear came down from the hill beside the pond and was only about 5 meters away before it fled after the person shouted.
The most active ground has been around Kizugawa City, Kyotanabe, Seika, Ikoma, and the Minoh and Heguri hills, with reports clustering along wooded edges, ponds, and agricultural roads. Activity peaked in November 2025 with 31 incidents, then stayed active through October 2025 with 10, September 2025 with 7, August 2025 with 9, and June 2025 with 6, before tapering into December 2025 with 6 and the quieter stretch of January 2026 and March 2026 with 1 and 2. Across this area, there have been 141 black bear sightings overall.
