At 09:50 a similarly sized bear-like animal was seen near a nearby parking lot. Subsequent sightings were reported along the river, at a shrine, and near a supermarket, and authorities say the bear may still be in the area.

On May 17 in the same area, a bear believed to have an injured front paw entered a private property, and police responded by setting off firecrackers.

The bear moved north, about 1 km from the nearest house; the witness said the bear appeared to have an injured front paw, and the Akita Central Police contacted relevant agencies and are monitoring the area.
