Around 08:30 on February 5, 2026, multiple bear-like footprints about 13 cm wide were found on the premises of a printing company in Suzurankamachi, Hakodate. The tracks appeared to head east; there were no sightings or injuries reported, and police warned the public because residences are about 550 meters away.

Around 07:30 on February 5, 2026, footprints about 15 cm wide and smaller overlapping prints were found on the snow at the Senkamezawa Junior High School grounds in Hakodate; police warned it could be a parent-and-child bear pair. Earlier that morning, footprints about 13 cm wide were also found on the premises of a company in Suzuranka-cho, Hakodate, with no injuries reported.
