Around 14:00 on the 1st, a bear footprint estimated at about 30 cm long was found near Aikappu Cape in Akkeshi, Hokkaido. The Akkeshi Police are urging nearby residents to be cautious.

Around 14:00 on January 1, a walker near Aikappu in Akkeshi Town found bear-like tracks in the snow measuring about 30 cm long and 20 cm wide, continuing for roughly 20 meters. The tracks had soil on them with paw-pad impressions visible; police said the prints could indicate a very large individual comparable to the 2023 "OSO18" bear, and carried out patrols while warning residents.
