At around 14:25 on May 8, 2026, a woman in her 60s inside the Koide After-School Care Club Keyakikko grounds in Nakasanmaiji Aza Hashimoto, Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture, sighted a bear about 60 cm long. The Yurihonjo police station said the bear was about 10 meters from the nearest building; they notified relevant authorities and used patrol cars to warn and alert residents in the area.
