While driving on a municipal road, I spotted one bear approximately 1.5 m in body length. The bear proceeded north across the rice field for a while, then left heading west. Distance to the nearest house about 30 m.

At around 10:00 on May 21, 2026, a woman in her 60s at home sighted a bear about 1 meter long in a rice field in Usui Ōnakajima, Omagawamachi, Yokote City, Akita Prefecture. The bear was about 100 meters from nearby houses, and the Yokote Police are urging residents to be cautious.
