On 2026-01-28, one bear was captured in a mountain forest in Odai Town, Mie Prefecture. Mie Prefecture issued advisories for one city and three towns in the surrounding area.

An adult male Asian black bear was captured in forest in Amedzu, Odai Town. A local resident found it about 350 meters from a settlement trapped in a cage set for deer/boar, reported it, and because it was close to houses and struggled in the trap it was euthanized by the hunters' association.
