On May 6 at around 10:00, a bear in Shari (Shiretoko Peninsula) emerged from the roadside, slowly crossed the road, walked along the shoulder and disappeared into vegetation on the opposite side. No damage to people or buildings was confirmed, and the police are conducting patrols by patrol car.

A man descending Mount Rausu in Shari Town was attacked and killed by a brown bear. On the 20th, authorities investigated the scene and found four personal items believed to belong to the man, including a smartphone and sunglasses.

On 2025-08-14 on the Mt. Rausu trail in Shari Town, a 26-year-old man from Tokyo was attacked and killed by a brown bear; three bears (a mother and two cubs) found near the scene were subsequently culled. The Shiretoko Foundation's investigation found that this bear family had been previously sighted on trails and showed behavior of not avoiding people.

On 2025-08-14, a 26-year-old man hiking on Rausu-dake in Shari Town was attacked and killed by a bear. Afterwards, three parent-and-cub bears found near the body were culled, and Shari Town received about 50 complaints and opinions by August 18.
