At around 04:40 on May 20, 2026, one presumed Asiatic black bear was sighted near the riverbank north of Watarase Bridge in Tori 4-chome, Ashikaga City. The city also reported a related incident on May 10 in Omata Town where an approximately 100 kg bear was mistakenly caught in a trap and culled.

At around 17:45 on March 17, 2026, two bears approximately 1.5 m long were sighted on the riverbed about 200 m northwest of the north end of the Watarase Bridge. The report came from Sano City but did not specify a place name, and the site may correspond to Shimohayakawada-cho, Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture.

At around 08:00 on 2025-12-19, an animal believed to be a bear was sighted on the riverside east of Tanaka Bridge along the Watarase River in Ise-minamicho, Ashikaga. The sighting occurred near a bridge that connects city areas and was reported as having significant impact.
