On November 17 and 18, 2025, two bears believed to be a parent and cub stayed for long periods at a persimmon tree on private residential property in Iwaizumi. On the 18th a police special team deployed with a rifle attempted to cull them but did not do so due to sunset, and there were no sightings through the morning of the 19th.

Around 06:00 on November 17, two bears (an adult and a cub) were seen in a persimmon tree in a residential area of Iwaizumi town, where they stayed for about 13 hours eating fruit. No injuries or property damage were reported; they descended from the tree after 19:00 and left westward.
