On 2021-06-18 at 05:38, a brown bear appeared in the urban area of Kita 18-jo Higashi 6-chome, Sapporo, injuring four people (serious and minor injuries). Hunters dispatched by the local hunting association later shot and killed the bear.

In the early morning of June 18, 2021, a brown bear appeared in a residential area near Shindō-Higashi Station on the Toho Subway Line in Higashi Ward, Sapporo. The bear ran through the city between Motomachi and Sakaemachi stations, attacked four people causing serious and minor injuries, and was culled around 11:15 a.m. after about eight hours of response by police, city staff and hunters.
