The bear was estimated at about 1.5–2.0 meters in length; there were no injuries, but footprints believed to be from a brown bear were found nearby. At around 22:20 on November 25, 2025, a man in his 60s driving near the baseball field at the foot of Maruyama Park in Miyagaoka, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, reported seeing a single bear cub about 80 cm long crossing the road and called police. Police and city staff conducted patrols and track inspections, but no clear traces or damage have been confirmed.

At around 11:35 on November 12, 2025, a male brown bear was caught in a box trap on the grounds of Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo's Chuo Ward and was culled. The bear measured about 113 cm in length with a front paw width of about 11 cm and is believed to be the same individual that had been seen and left tracks around the zoo since November 9.

City staff found multiple footprints around 10:30 on the same day about 800 meters from the zoo in Maruyama Nishimachi (width about 11 cm), believed to be a female or a young male.

Police and city officials responded; no injuries have been reported. Footprints and sightings were also recorded near Maruyama Zoo and Hokkaido Jingu on Nov 9–10, and authorities are treating it as possibly the same individual and maintaining precautions.
