In the early morning of June 18, 2021, a brown bear appeared in a residential area near Shindō-Higashi Station in Higashi Ward, Sapporo. The bear ran through the area between Motomachi and Sakaemachi stations on the Tōhō Line, attacked four people causing serious and minor injuries, and was culled around 11:15 after about eight hours of response by police, city staff, and hunting association members.

After about eight hours of pursuit, the bear was killed by police and others at around 11:15 AM.
