On January 21, 2026, an in a field in Miyakoshi, Kaminokuni Town, Hokkaido, an in his 80s man sighted one bear. A hunter who responded to the report dispatched the bear at around 11:20 a.m.; the female was about 1.4 m long, estimated 100 kg and about 8 years old.

On January 21, a brown bear that appeared in a field in Miyakoshi, Kaminokuni Town, Hiyama area, was shot and killed. The bear was a female about 1.4 meters long, estimated to be 8 years old; this is the first January capture in the town since records began in 2016.
