I was driving from Hachinohe to Lake Towada via a mountain road, and about two or three minutes after entering Akita Prefecture I saw a brown earthen embankment on the left where a bear appeared to be eating soil — I could see it moving its mouth, chewing.

Mount Funakata, Masuzawa route. Encountered a bear in a stream a short distance beyond the Masuzawa hut; it appeared to have come to drink. The bear noticed us and moved away.

[Post] On the road just after exiting the hot spring facility, three bears (a mother with two cubs) were there. They noticed the approaching car and hid in the left-side shrubs, watching us.
