On 2025-11-25, a male brown bear about 1.9 m long and reported to weigh roughly 380–400 kg was trapped in a box trap in the Ogawa district of Tomamae Town, Hokkaido, and was captured and euthanized by the local hunters' association. Since summer, what is believed to be the same large bear had been recorded on surveillance cameras overturning box traps.

Between November 11 and 12, a huge brown bear estimated at about 400 kg was captured on a surveillance camera in the Ogawa district of Tomamae Town. The footage showed the bear walking across a snowy grassland with visible breath, and later reportedly pushing over a roughly 300-kg box trap with its forepaws before disappearing. A similarly large bear was seen in another district in September, suggesting it may be the same individual.
