Around 11:30 on December 5, 2025, a resident reported an adult bear about 1 meter long that was in a persimmon tree near houses in Sanada, Ueda City, Nagano. Police and municipal staff responded, used firecrackers to drive the bear away, it returned to the mountain, and no injuries or building damage were confirmed.

Shortly after 13:00 on December 3, a person affiliated with a junior high school spotted a single bear believed to be a cub on the Kamikawa riverbed in Sanada-machi, Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, from a classroom window. There was another sighting near the river on the east side of the school earlier that morning; police and the city are patrolling the area and warning residents, but the bear has not been located.
