On December 16 a single cub approximately 70 cm long was seen in a persimmon tree on private property in Nigorisawa, Nagaoka City. After securing the area, the city carried out an emergency shooting in the afternoon and culled the bear; no injuries were reported. The same tree had been reported sighted the previous week.
