On May 19 at around 13:00 in Nippara, Okutama Town, Tokyo, officers from the Ome Police Station found a body of unknown age and sex. The upper body was missing and multiple footprints believed to be from a large animal were found nearby; the police suspect the person may have been attacked by a bear or other animal and are proceeding with identification.

Around noon on the 17th, a Russian man in his 30s was attacked by a bear near the end of the Konakazawa forest road in Okutama (border area) and sustained injuries to his arm and face; he was airlifted by Tokyo Fire Department helicopter to a hospital. He was conscious and is believed to have serious injuries; he was not carrying bear-deterrent devices such as a bell, and the town has set capture cages and urged people to avoid nearby trails.

On May 17 at around 11:55, a man in his 30s of Russian nationality was attacked by an adult Asiatic black bear on Mt. Minokido (Sannokido) in Okutama-machi, Tokyo, sustaining serious injuries to his face and arms. He was airlifted by a fire department helicopter to a hospital in Hachioji and is not in life-threatening condition; he was hiking alone without a bear bell and the bear fled immediately after the attack.

On 2026-05-17, a man in his 30s of Russian nationality was reportedly attacked by a bear near Mount San-nokido (三ノ木戸山) in Okutama, Tokyo, prompting the metropolitan government to close the affected trail. In response to increased sightings, Tokyo began hunter patrols by the metropolitan hunting association on May 15 in municipalities including Hachioji, Ome, and Okutama.
