A cub about 50 cm long was running around within the residential area. It is likely the same individual that escaped toward the museum.

Around 9:30 on 2026-07-14, one bear was sighted on a village road in Nishi 2-chome, Ōgata Village.

Saw a bear about 50 cm in the brush near the gas station. It then moved toward the museum.

[Report] One bear sighted in a field. Moving from west to east. Around 14:40, possibly the same individual but uncertain, one cub was sighted on an adjacent village road. Moving from west to east.

[Report] From the sighting point it crossed the road toward the elementary school side and entered the school grounds or toward the playground. It was a momentary event. I confirmed it from inside a car parked on the road about 80 meters away. The body seemed to be about 1 meter (long). Afterwards it moved closer to the playground; I scanned from inside the car but could not find the bear.

The JA-run convenience store 'Lawson Ogata Village' in Ogata Village, Akita Prefecture shortened its hours to 5:00–22:00 from November 13, 2025 after repeated bear sightings and resignations of student part-timers left it unable to maintain 24-hour operations. The village has received 15 bear sighting reports this fiscal year, nearly double last year's eight.
