On Tuesday, May 19 at approximately 7:33 PM, in the Tenmamae area of Kitakata City, a witness (man in his 60s) driving on a municipal road observed an animal believed to be a bear (about 50 cm in body length) entering a thicket. The subsequent whereabouts of the animal believed to be a bear are unknown.

At around 20:40 on November 16, a single bear about 0.5 m long was sighted in a vacant lot south of Sakuragaoka Park in Kitakata. The following morning at 06:50 on November 17, a bear of similar size was also seen on Route 459 (Kitakata, Yamatocho Kohata Kitamukai), and no injuries or property damage were reported; the bear later entered the forest.
