At around 9:50 a.m., staff of Kamikoani Elementary and Junior High School sighted a single Asiatic black bear (about 1 meter in body length) near the village cemetery area close to the school. The direction in which it subsequently left is unknown.

Elementary and middle school staff on the way home saw a brown bear about 1.0 m long near the students’ bicycle parking area. About 10 minutes later, a parent who came to pick up the students also sighted what is likely the same bear nearby. Departure direction unknown. About 20 m to nearby houses, about 200 m to the school.

Local residents saw a brown bear about 1.2 m in length near a chestnut tree on a neighboring property. It then broke through the glass in the sash between the neighbor's main house and workshop, crossing the village, and headed west into the forest. The sighting point was about 2 m from a house.
