On 2026-05-05 at around 08:15, a 48-year-old man patrolling rice fields in Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, was attacked by a single bear and sustained injuries to his face and right arm. He was airlifted by a doctor helicopter to a hospital in Akita City and was conscious and able to speak during transport; the bear is believed to be an adult about 1 meter long.
