On the morning of January 23, two bears were sighted in Tochigi Prefecture. Around 04:30 a.m. an approximately 80 cm bear was seen on the Iwakawa riverbed in Shidori, Nasu-Karasuyama City, and about 1.5 hours later an approximately 50 cm cub with white fur on its chest was reported in a grove in Nasushiobara City; no injuries were reported.

An about 80 cm bear was seen on the Iwakawa riverbed in Shidori, Nasu-Karasuyama, and roughly 90 minutes later a roughly 50 cm cub with white fur on its chest was found in a grove in Nasushiobara. There were no injuries, and the prefecture has issued warnings to local municipalities.
