In the early morning of July 12, 2025, a 52-year-old newspaper delivery worker, Kenki Sato, was attacked and killed by a brown bear in the Mitsutake residential area of Fukushima Town, Hokkaido. He was dragged about 100 meters, sustained scratches over his body and bite wounds mainly to the abdomen; the bear, estimated at about 1.5 meters long, has not been found.
