At about 05:10 on November 11, 2025, a 75-year-old man walking in Liyama, Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, was attacked by a bear that emerged from nearby brush; he suffered scratches to his face and shoulder, returned home on his own and was taken to hospital. His life is not in danger, and the bear reportedly fled toward the southeast mountains.
