On October 2, 2025, three elderly people doing farm work in Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture were attacked by bears and injured. At about 09:40 a.m. in a field at Towada-Oyu, city councilor Kazuhide Miyano (76) was attacked by a bear about 1 meter long and suffered injuries to his face and right arm; at about 10:50 a.m. a man in his 70s in a paddy field in Hanawa had his left hand and right leg bitten; around the same time an woman in her 80s in Towada-Yamane was scratched on the head and taken to a hospital in Akita City. All were able to speak and are not believed to have life-threatening injuries, and the attack sites were about 1.5 km apart, suggesting different individuals may be involved.
