On November 29 a bear about 150 cm long was sighted in central Fukushima City and at around 16:45 collided with a down Abukuma Express train, dying at the scene. The collision occurred about 1.5 km north of JR Fukushima Station near Yashikishita, in a residential area with nearby commercial facilities and schools.
